Sisterhood of the World Bloggers & other tags ♡

sisterhood-of-the-world-bloggers Long time no speak! I’ve been a bit of a ghost recently as I’ve been moving flat which is a very stressful time for me but I thought i’d reply to some of the tags I have been lucky enough to be tagged in recently. Thank you so much to the people who tagged me the most recent being shamelesssparklesallaboutleanneadorebeauty2squaremileofstyle and anyone else in the past. These are all great blogs, worth a read! I thought i’d answer the most recent by emmacharlottebeauty, thank you girl! The Rules are:

  • Thank and link to the blogger who nominated you.
  • Answer ten questions your nominator has provided.
  • Nominate other bloggers.
  • Create 10 new questions for your nominees to answer

1. What do you prefer: bronzer or blusher? Probably blusher, I get more excited about different shades of blush whereas one standard bronzer i enough for me, plus there are different blushes for different occasions! 2. When you go out – what drink are you most likely to order? If alcoholic probably Peach Scnappes and Lemonade or a fruity cider, I like alcohol that doesn’t taste like alcohol. If non alcoholic I usually go for water because it’s cheap and necessary which is a win win. 3. If you won the lottery, would you still buy some low end makeup products? Definitely, I’d buy a house with a room just for makeup and cosmetics so i’d need all the brands to fill it. A girl can dream. Plus I like some drugstore stuff better than high end. 4. Which jewelry items do you mainly wear? I always forget to put jewellery on in the morning but probably rings being as I seem to have them always in my handbag. 5. Whats your favourite hairstyle at the moment? Beachy waves, I use my straighteners and slightly curl my hair then let it fall out, summery and voluminous. 6. How often do you buy makeup: Daily, weekly, monthly or yearly? I’d say every other week, depends on the month really and the proximity to my pay day. 7. Would you rather go out with just your makeup done or just your hair done? Just my hair done, I don’t mind leaving the house bare-faced but my hair undone is too crazy i’d look too unkempt for my liking. 8. Eye shadow pencil or powder? Powder because it’s what i’m most used to, but if I invested in more pencil shadows i’d probably love them more. Crying because I can’t afford the ByTerry Ombre Blackstars. 9. Have you got any piercings or tattoos? I have my ears pierced and two tattoos on my middle fingers, here’s a picture of them when they were freshly done, they’re much more faded now so look dark blue I need to get them touched up. Tattoos that are in places that are in the sun too often are a pain to maintain! They both are pretty meaningful to me but I won’t bore you with the details! tats10. What do you prefer: Trashy TV (TOWIE etc) or soaps? Definitely trashy TV, I rarely watch TV so can’t get into soaps but sometimes I love a good episode of Geordie Shore it’s my guilty pleasure, gotta love Vicky.  I’m gonna nominate a couple of blogs, you don’t have to answer these questions and if you’ve already been nominated sorry! It’d be nice to hear your answers if you do 🙂 acoffeeshot laurabruj bapalaya newkeybeauty milliliza All great blogs (hint hint follow them), the questions are; 1. What is your favourite lipstick? 2.What’s your favourite drugstore and high end brand? 3. Have you ever purchased anything just because you like the packaging? 4. What is your hot drink of choice? 5. Do you prefer dressing for spring/summer or autumn/winter? 6. If you could only use one makeup product what would it be? 7. What was the first makeup product you purchased? 8. What is your signature scent? 9. Do you prefer liquid, gel or kohl eyeliner? 10. What’s been your favourite beauty product of this summer? Thank you so much for reading, if there’s anyone who wants to answer these questions I tag you by default. Thank you so much again to those who nominated me I’m nosy so I loved reading the answers. I should hopefully have my July favourites up tomorrow enjoy the rest of your day 🙂

Mini drugstore/boots haul ♡

I popped into Boots the other day to buy some face wipes and ended up with multiple things in my basket, i’m sure it’s an occasion many of you can relate to!
So thought i’d share the few things I brought as I love a good drugstore haul.

1.Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Peach Glow

I’ve heard good things about this powder so thought i’d try it out and I wasn’t disappointed. It claims to last longer than 5 hours and that it does,  I haven’t noticed myself feeling oily throughout the day of using it and i’m prone to an oily t-zone. I love the colour options as well, though after testing they are all pretty similar shades, I just went with the colour that sounded most appealing. For a drugstore powder it’s a great formula, for £3.99 you can’t go wrong.

2. Boots Botanics All Bright Hydrating Night Cream

I’ve seen this range all over the place and heard praise for it. Admittedly I haven’t tried it yet, I’m waiting for my current night cream to run out which hopefully is soon as I can’t wait to try this. It boasts Hibiscus extract which is apparently good for brightening skin, I think this will be a great product for keeping my skin hydrated and healthy during sleep.

3. Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner

This used to be my holy grail eyeliner for years, then I sort of forgot about it and started using Eyeko’s liners but I decided to come back to it and I remember now why I was so in love with it. The nib is so skinny so it’s perfect for accurate application and winged liner. It avoids overdrawing eyeliner and the colour is very black on application, but does fade slightly throughout the day but I haven’t found a liner that doesn’t do that. I’m glad to have this back in my life!

4. Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in 111 Kiss of Life

I’ve never tried any of the Kate Moss lipsticks so after about 15 minutes of deciding which colour to get I decided on this bright red. The formula of the lipstick is great, it’s very pigmented and matte but not drying. Some people have compared it to MAC’s Ruby Woo, which I can see so if you’re looking for a drug store alternative this is a good buy!

Thank you for reading, do you like any of these products? Also thank you to the people who’ve nominated me for tags, I am in the process of moving flat so will try reply when I can. I hope your weekends are going well 🙂

Is it worth the hype?: Nars Orgasm Blush ♡

I wrote a post similar to this about the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer and thought i’d write a follow up post about another hyped up product and that is the Nars Orgasm blush. I brought this in New York in April and it’s been on a long journey, in-between being thrown about in luggage and my clumsy self dropping it looks a little bit worse for wear. It’s been broken then fixed so I apologise for the way it looks, it’s not an accurate representation of what a healthy Nars blush looks like but it’s what’s inside that counts! This blush is undoubtedly a cult classic, even before I was into makeup i’d heard of this blush so good things were to be expected.

When this was released way back in spring 1999 (I was only 5!) it was described as a ‘suit-all blush-highlighter hybrid’ and this is seems to be very true. The colour of the blush is a peachy pink with a shimmer. I found it intimidating at first with it’s strange colour and hefty amount of shimmer but those worries melted away when I tried it on. The colour is so pretty and the shimmer is there but not overbearing, the shimmer acts as a slight highlight which would look great on any skin tone. I’ve googled how this would look on many different skin types and the photo evidence shows it is universally fitting.

The staying power of this blush is pretty impressive, it sticks around no matter how much is put on. However I do notice that after around 5-6 hours you’d need to top up if you’re looking for a less subtle looking blush. The packa11774419_10152903415412371_1002347142_nging is pretty ideal for travel, although after the fate of mine and the fact that it’s pretty expensive I am very wary of this! The fact mine broke has nothing to do with the product itself, any blush or powder that had sustained that would be smashed to pieces too.

Is it worth the hype?

Overall I would say this is worth the hype, I fell in love with it when I tried it on at the Nars counter, the colour was surprisingly lovely, the colour pay-off was impressive and the quality of the product was smooth and blendable. I would definitely repurchase this once it’s run out, however because it is worth a pretty penny  I would always say to try it on in store before committing! Some credible dupes that i’ve heard of are Sleek’s Rose Gold, Nyx’s Pinched, Milani’s Dolce Pink and Sephora’s Cream Blush in Coral Flush.

Thank you so much for reading, have you tried this blush, do you think it lived up to the hype? Hope your days are going well 🙂

Benefit’s Do the Hoola Kit Review ♡

I received this kit as a gift over the weekend from my very generous other half and thought i’d review it as it’s the perfect kit for this somewhat sunny weather! In the kit you receive a mini version of the following products; Hoola Ultra Plush Lipgloss, They’re Real, Hoola, Dew the Hoola and BeneBalm.

1. Hoola Ultra Plush Lipgloss

The colour of this lipgloss is described as a shimmering golden nude, to fit with the sun-kissed look and it is pretty accurate to description. The product applies easily and isn’t too sticky , the colour does translate as a brownish nude with a quite subtle shimmer. It does what it says it does however it’s not something I personally find very exciting and would wear regularly but for lipgloss fans I imagine this would be a good feat.

2. They’re Real Mascara

This is a pretty universally iconic mascara so everyone probably knows how good it is! I’ve used it before and was impressed, it’s a great lengthening mascara, adds volume, isn’t too clumpy and features a great wand. However it’s not the only mascara with these features and I feel some drug store mascaras are on par or even better than this. I do think it’s a great addition to the kit and will be handy for when my current mascara runs out.

3. Hoola – Bronzing powder

This is the product I was most excited about, it’s a much loved bronzer and i’ve seen it favoured by people with a varying range of skintones. Similarly to many people I thought this would be too light for my skin on first impression but upon application I realised it’s actually perfect. It’s a perfect tanned colour without being overly orange and blends very easily which makes for a natural looking contour or tan depending how you use it. The actual mini brush you get with the kit is pretty handy too, it makes application easy and means you aren’t too overzealous with the area you apply to. The packaging is great for on the go also, even though you don’t really need to reapply much as the staying power is impressive. I’m impressed with this product overall it exceeded my expectations, and one last plus point is that it has no shimmer which is great for matte fanatics.

4. Dew the Hoola – Liquid Bronzer

This is the liquid counterpart of Hoola, you can use this on it’s own or alongside Hoola to sculpt and add colour to your face. It’s of a golden, slighty peachy tone and blends out sheer enough that the colour isn’t too obvious. It’s really pretty used alongside hoola, creating a dewy finish and adding to that sun-kissed look. It’s a much lighter more golden colour than Hoola so as a bronzer on it’s own may only work on limited skintones but is a great addition in your m akeup routine to add some glow. I think this is a great product for the summer and I will definitely get a good use out of it, which is slightly worrying as it’s not available as a single product until 2016!

(Dew the Hoola is swatch below Hoola)

5. BeneBalm Hydrating Tinted Lip Balm

The packaging for this is so cute, It’s a sheer rose-tinted balm infused with mango butter and sodium hyaluronate (not sure what it is either) that’s main purpose is to hydrate and condition. It’s a pretty decent lip balm, it makes your lips feel smoother and more hydrated which is great for fellow dry lip sufferers and the colour is subtle yet noticeable and can be built up. I feel it doesn’t last too long however and I wouldn’t justify buying a full sized when a handy tub of vaseline does the job much better! It is however a cute little edition to my handbag and will be widely used.

Overall I am very happy with this kit, the bronzing products are really great, the mascara is a good product and will be useful and although I wasn’t too enthralled by the lip products they are nice to try out and are pretty decent products. This costs £28.50 and would be ideal as a gift or for someone wanting to test these products before committing to a full size. I will definitely be repurchasing Hoola once my mini has run out, which hopefully is a while away! Also I like the size of the box and the fact it is reusable.

Thank you for reading, do you like any of these products? It’s sadly raining cats and dogs outside so I will be putting this kit away for a sunnier day, hope your days are going well 🙂

Summer Make Up Bag Essentials ♡

After seeing a lot of summer based blog posts I thought i’d follow suit and bring some summer vibes in the form of the seasonal things I carry in my makeup bag.

First off is a blusher and bronzer combo I have been using as of late. The Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder, which is a mouthful to say as i’ve always referred to it as the ‘chocolate bronzer’, is an old one but a good one. I find it’s a very subtle bronzer with minimal shimmer. On some skin tones I can imagine it to be a little orangey but it blends very well with my skin which is not very pale. I match this with the blush I talk about too much which is FratBoy by theBalm, i’m just still not over how much I like this blush. It’s a lovely apricot shade which is perfect for summer.

Copper tones seem to be on all the lids this summer, and though I don’t wear much shadow in everyday life i’ll sometimes wear a light dusting of MAC’s Expensive Pink. Although the name gives away the fact that it’s a pink colour it translates as a copper colour with coral undertones. For lips i’ve been pretty boring, I haven’t found a very daring summer lipstick as I feel anything but reds or nudes make me look a bit bizarre, so I stick to a nude lip. I love the Colour Drama Lip Pencils by Maybelline and though everyone raves about the more pigmented shades I like this one for everyday use. This is the shade Nude Perfection and it’s a plain and simple pinky beige nude, I like the finish of these pencils however if you have dry lips you will be able to notice, they aren’t the best for moisture.

For the oily skin days I use One Heck of A Blot by Soap & Glory I mentioned this product in a previous post so shortly and sweetly it’s a decent powder for mattifying the skin without suffocating it! I’ve also been carrying the TonyMoly Pocket Bunny Moist Mist, aside from being in the cutest packaging in existence it’s a nice product to spray on your face once in a while to refresh your skin,. Summer can be a drying time or a time when your face just feels like the makeup is too much and this is perfect for that. It’s so refreshing on the face but not harsh, has makeup setting properties and smells nice!

That’s all I can think of at the moment, however there are other things lurking in my makeup bag such as dried up mascaras and forgotten lip balms, as you do. Thank you so much for reading, any comments or likes are much appreciated. Hope you’re all having good summer so far, and if not hope it gets better 🙂

Beauty Tips I Was Told As A Kid ♡

I was never very beauty conscious as a child/teenager, I didn’t care if I had a spot or a few split ends here and there but I was always told different tips and tricks from relatives. I thought I’d share some of them handed down to me from the days before beauty blogs and expert advise, and whether or not they work.

1. Cucumbers are good for dark eye circles.

I have had dark eye circles since the womb so when I was more worried about them in my teenage years I was told to put cold cucumbers over them. I used to do this nightly and admittedly never saw a difference however there is a lot of research to show that the antioxidants in cucumbers can help to reduce puffiness under the eyes. Cucumbers also contain Vitamin C and K which can be absorbed into the skin, so possibly if you have puffy under eyes this could help you. For me cucumber is more useful on the skin as opposed to under eyes.

2. Vaseline will keep your eyeshadow in place and brighten eyes.

When putting on eyeshadow for probably the first time ever when I was 15 to go to a party I was advised to put vaseline over my eyelids to keep it in place and that it would make my eyes look brighter and bigger. This makes sense on the eye brightening front as it would just make my eyes look shinier however also oily and as a shadow setter it’s not a great idea! I put some of this over some eyeshadow recently to test this out and all it did was smudge and pick up some of my eyeliner. Whoever told me this tip must’ve got it mixed up because this helped remove my makeup and after a little google search I learnt a lot of people use it as an effective eye makeup remover.

3. Toothpaste gets rid of spots

My mother would tell me to put a dab of toothpaste on any spots I got to help with the redness so i’d put a bit on a spot before I went to bed. I found it did help a bit, wasn’t a miracle cure but it always made the spot feel better and less irritated. This may be due to the antibacterial qualities of toothpaste however upon googling whether it’s an effective treatment I found cautionary tales. Some people claim it had burned and irritated their spots and there are even allergen risks so this tip is not very advisable!

4. Coconut oil gives you thick shiny hair.

This is a tip i’d heard from Indian friends and relatives, I knew kids as a child who’s moms would slather their hair in coconut oil which often meant they’d be walking around with oily hair but I bet their hair is amazing now! Coconut oil unlike any other oil can actually penetrate hair strands to improve strength which is incredible. Coconut oil retains a lot of moisture so is great for hydrating dry hair and protects from heat damage from within. I’ve been using this Coconut hair mask from Phytorelax and have noticed a big difference, although I feel once this has run out I will be using a purer form of coconut oil after reading about the amazing things it does!

Those are the few tips I can remember at the moment, there were other small things I heard preached about, such as not to touch your face to avoid bacteria build up and to wash with cold water to close pores but these are the more interesting tips! Thank you so much for reading, do you have any beauty tricks your relatives told you when you were younger? Any comments or likes are much appreciated. Hope your day goes well 🙂

Travel Makeup; Night out edition ♡

The weekend has passed and for some may have included a night going out on the town followed by a morning nursing a hangover trying to find some semblance of being human.Well that’s how my weekend went so I thought I’d write about what  makeup and accessories I usually take  along with me.

MAC Russian Red & Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Red Diva

More often than not I go for a bold red lip when I go out, I usually wear a predominantly black outfit so it’s necessary in adding some colour to my outfit! My favourite red is MAC’s Russian Red it’s a deep red matte shade which I believe would suit anyone. I pair this with Rimmel’s Lip Liner in Red Diva, it matches the colour identically and application is so smooth, definitely a good budget option for a good lip liner.

Although MAC lipsticks are so long lasting and non drying sometimes when drinking and being in a hot bar I notice my lips feeling a tad dry so I carry a tub of vaseline, it’s handy to add some moisture to my lips and can be applied without a mirror which is always a win.

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot & Real Technique’s Powder Brush

Clubs and bars are an awfully sweaty place to be, so powder is necessary for me! I’m not really a powder person so I stick to this one by Soap & Glory, it does the job of de-oiling my T-Zone and giving my skin a matte look. A little goes a long way with this! The Real Techniques Powder Brush is as expected a great brush, it holds product well, is soft on the skin and gives an even coverage.

Eyelash Curlers

I don’t know where my lashes would be without these bad boys. I never wear false eyelashes on a night out, too many times do I see girls on the dance floor with their lashes hanging off. I even once saw a pair of falsies on the floor of a kebab shop after a night out, as if someone had had enough and flung their lashes off! This makes me too paranoid to wear them, so I stick to natural eyelashes and just curl them every now and then in the night to make them full but avoid the drama of checking my eyelashes every 5 seconds.

Accessorise Face & Body Wipes

Last but not least I carry this tiny pack of wipes for multiple uses. Sometimes if I’ve had a few to drink then try to re apply lipstick it may look a little messy, but usually I’m sober enough to use these to touch it up. It’s a rare incident but they came in handy this weekend! Also handy for people who are sanitation freaks like me and hate having dirty feeling hands.

I don’t carry that much and sometimes even less than this but what I do carry sometimes can be a god-send. What is essential for you to have on a night out? Thank you so much for reading, hope your weekends were good whether you went out or spent it in, the latter being what I pick most weekends 🙂
