August Favourites ♡

Summer has met an untimely end and everyone seems to be whipping out the burgundy colours and brewing their autumnal drink of choice already, and with good reason! As sad as I am to see summer go I will be embracing autumn and the cosy times it brings, so here are the things i’ve been enjoying in this transitional period.

Stila Eyeshadows

I’ve found so many good things in TKMaxx this month, it’s kind of a bizarre place to frequent but it’s my fourth home, I find so many good things there. The first being the Stila In the Moment palette, it features such pretty and wearable colours with good pigmentation. I’ve been wearing this on most days, its perfect for a neutral look but also a good day to night palette as you can spruce up your look with the purple shades. I don’t think I’ve ever used the word ‘spruce’ in my life but it’s the only word to describe this palette’s powers. I also found a Stila Eye Shadow Compact in Copper, the pigmentation of this is so good and the shade can be mixed with a lot of colours. I will definitely be investing in more Stila eye shadows in the future, I am besotted.

Dove Rich Nourishment Cream

I’m pretty lazy when it comes to body care, but i’ve been making a conscious effort to moisturise my legs and arms as the colder months arrive and this has been an essential. It’s very moisturising, leaves my skin very soft and I love the scent, it’s very inexpensive for the amount and quality of product you get.

Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipstick in Bond Girl

The beautiful packaging and glamorous name of this product seduced me way before I had tried this on, then when I tried it on I knew it would never leave my side. It’s a natural berry shade, perfect for autumn and any makeup look. It’s formula does wonders for my lips, such a comfortable matte you forget you’re wearing it. The price is a bit painful, but for a lipstick I will get a good use of I can justify it.

NARS loves Los Angeles Palette

Yet another TKMaxx find, and probably the best thing i’ve ever found there. It’s quite an old and limited palette but I was wooed when I saw it had the Laguna bronzer in it. It also has the blush Deep throat and the eye shadows Abyssinia, Etrusque, Bali and Outremer. The shadows are great colours, Abyssinia and Outremer being handy crease and highlight colours and the other two handy for just about anywhere on the lid. Deep throat is a very pretty blush, it’s a good less-shimmery alternative to Orgasm by Nars which is a firm favourite, but some days you don’t want your cheeks to steal the show so Deep throat is perfect. The main attraction of this palette is Laguna, it’s a firm favourite with everyone and their nan so I was excited to see if this lived up to the hype and it really did! It’s a perfect shade, not too orange, creating a natural contour. I will possibly be doing a more in depth post about it.

Benefit’s High Beam Highlighter

I received this in this month’s Birchbox, which was quite controversial when my review was posted on the Birchbox Facebook and brought out cries of ‘why didn’t I get high beam?’. I didn’t think it was such an in demand product, but I can see why! It’s a light pink liquid highlighter with just the right amount of shimmer, I love this on top of my cheeks, it just adds a pretty glow to the skin and will bring some life to the dreary autumn months.

What are your favourite autumnal products? It feels like autumn already in Britain, dreary weather and giant spiders sauntering about the place, the only downside of this side of the year. Thank you for reading, hope your days go well! 🙂

TKMaxx Eyeshadow Palette Treasure Finds ♡

Quite a bizarre title I know, but many trips to TKMaxx often end with me coming out with little treasure finds, they do good brands for good prices. The most recent finds were these two shadow palettes, one being the Stila In the Moment palette and the other the Cargo Cosmetics Shanghai Nights Palette. Both palette’s have good qualities and not so good qualities that I thought i’d run through.

Stila – In theMoment

There are four editions of the ‘In the …’ palettes, all with different colour schemes and this palette seems to revolve around purple. I’ve never been a fan of brightly coloured eyeshadows, I worry about looking a bit gaudy in them however this palette has changed my mind the purples are too beautiful to not love! Improvise, the deep purple shade is perfect for the outer lid if you want a subtle colour whereas Glance the bright purple is so pigmented it’s perfect for colour lovers. Glance also looks really nice on the lower lash line as a bit of colour, these shadows are of such good formula it will stay in place.

The shades on the bottom row are all perfect for everyday looks, the shimmer in these are not overbearing. Spontaneous & Captive are a perfect combination for a bronzed look, though with this palette everything is a good combination! The two shades I think i’ll get the least use out of are Impulse, a frosty pink and Catalyst, a very pigmented black shade. I’m just not a massive fan of pink, it doesn’t look too great on my skin tone and as for Catalyst it’s so pigmented and dark that for a person inexperienced with smoky eyes, like me, it’ll just make me look even more tired.

Another minor thing that I didn’t like was the lack of mirror in the palette, which is just a little inconvenient. It does have in place a nice little quote which reads ‘Cherish the beauty of the moment.’ which is nice, I feel often i’m worried about remembering a moment as opposed to just living in it, those are some deep words to stare at while I blend. Aside from that I am so happy with this palette, Stila shadows have really great formulas and these colours will be used a lot. If you want to see some swatches there are some from online here.

Cargo Cosmetics – Shanghai Nights

I’d seen this online before and was in awe at the packaging, I love the visuals for it, China seems like it would be an amazing place all lit up at night. I brought this for other reasons though, mainly the impressive colour selection, bright electric colours mixed with shimmery gem colours. There are some stunning colours in this, my favourites being Skyline, Ginger, Lychee and Jade. Ginger is the standout colour to me, it’s a beautiful bronze shade which is perfect for any occasion really. The brighter colours like Skyline and Bar Rouge admittedly aren’t as pigmented as they appear, however that’s perfect for me as they won’t be too stark. There are great crease and brow bone colours in this too such as Wai tai, Bund and Hu, Hu I find is also pretty reputable as a highlight colour on the cheekbones.

The quality of these shadows are good, however not amazing, there is quite a bit of fallout I find and you’d definitely need a good primer if you’re thinking about long time wear. The colours translate well and I think there is a colour included for everything and so many looks could be created, so I am happy that I have this and Ginger is the colour of my dreams, not sure I’d pay full price for it though. Swatches can be seen here.

Thank you for reading! What is your go-to palette? I’ll be on hiatus for a week as i’ll be on holiday in a small village in the the south of England, with a week of forecasted rain, wish me luck! Hope everyone has a great week 🙂

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick ♡

I’d been eyeing up the lipstick Bond Girl by Charlotte Tilbury for a while now and today decided to take the plunge and buy it and I’m not looking back! This is my first Charlotte Tilbury product, I love the branding of their products, they exude vintage film star glam. The shade Bond Girl was my favourite amongst the Matte Revolution brand after seeing swatches and reviews, it’s a natural berry shade, something you can wear everyday. It is a perfect everyday shade, it’s nothing too brash yet is still a lovely noticeable colour. It costs a pretty penny at £23 which is a pricier lip product which is why i’m happy this is such a wearable shade, i’ll definitely get a good use from it.

The formula of this is amazing, it’s the most moisturising matte lipstick i’ve ever used, absolutely no drag it simply glides onto the lips. It’s not a drying matte at all, it feels like such a treat on the lips, almost like a good lip balm, but the pigment shows through. The matte finish does as it says, however I think for those that are seeking a super matte look with absolutely no shine at all this may not be your cup of tea, but for me it’s perfect. It’s a long lasting formula and won’t wear away easily but I don’t even mind reapplying this because the packaging is so beautiful I want to show it off to the world.

There’s not much else I can say to praise this lipstick, i’m just besotted with it. It’ll be so good as an autumnal shade and application is so easy i’ll be reaching for this often. I also love the shape of the lipstick, the square tip for me is easier to use than a rounded tip. I would recommend these lipsticks for lipstick fans, they are quite pricey and i’m pretty sure there are dupes out there but if you’ve got the money to spare and you’re a fan of higher end makeup i’d definitely give it a try!
Thank you so much for reading, would love to know if anyone is a fan of any other Charlotte Tilbury products? I would love to try more of her products, the looks you can create with them (as shown below) are so gorgeous. Have a great day 🙂

Beauty Benefits of Tea ♡

I’m a big tea fan, particularly herbal teas, they’re so relaxing and are full of good stuff that can benefit you inside and out. I thought i’d share some of my favourite teas and the good things they can do for you.

Green Tea

Green tea is renowned for it’s anti-oxidants and nutrients which help with fat loss, preventing cancer and improving brain function. Green tea contains certain antioxidants which reduce the formation of free radicals (basically a molecule that can cause cell damage) which can cause aging, meaning green tea helps prevent wrinkles. That’s reason enough for me to keep a mug close by at all times, but if drinking it is not your thing it has many benefits when applied to the skin. It’s known to help protect skin from UV rays when used in conjunction with sun screen, those pesky free radicals also help UV rays cause damage, green tea saves the day by neutralising the damage and helps with inflammation. Green tea is also known to have calming effects on the redness of Rosacea, if this is something you’d benefit from using a cream infused with Green tea would be ideal.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is such a perfect pre-bed drink, it’s so soothing and can act as a gentle sedative. Chamomile tea has similar antioxidants as green tea which can also help fight wrinkles, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties which make it perfect for those that experience acne. Applying it externally can help with numerous problems such as skin irritation, rashes, breakouts, acne scars and sunburns. This tea also can be used as a hair rinse, it has been knows to help fight dandruff and nourish hair, also claiming to naturally lighten hair.

Chai Tea

Chai tea is an autumn favourite for me, the healthier alternative to a large Chai tea latte from Starbucks, it contains spices such as cinnamon and cloves which do more than smell good. For smooth and supple skin good circulation is needed, Chai tea helps blood flow to the neck and face, getting all the good oxygen and nutrients to the facing and ridding it of waste products that could be causing skin problems. In times that your skin feels in need of some tender loving care this would be perfect, i’ll definitely be reaching for the Chai after those nights where alcohol and sleep take over the need for water and skin cleansing.

Milk Thistle, Nettle, Peppermint Detox Infusion

This isn’t a simple tea it actually contains more ingredients than listed above but i’ve noticed good results from it. One of the main ingredients is Nettle, which has anti-inflammatory properties which can calm skin; aiding eczema and acne. It’s also very detoxifying, which is again due to a high level of antioxidants and their fight against free radicals. The peppermint in this tea is also great for treating oily skin, the menthol in it lowers oil secretion from sebaceous glands, and I have noticed as of recent that my skin doesn’t appear as oily as usual, though to reap the true benefits of peppermint a pure peppermint tea would be ideal. I have noticed after drinking this tea nightly that I rarely get blemishes, and if I do they’re  tiny and disappear quickly.

Hopefully this was useful, there are so many benefits to tea inside and out and there are so many teas to try. My favourites are Teapigs, the Clippers range and the Marks and Spencers range, none of these sponsored. What’s your favourite tea?  For beauty or taste preferences! Thank you so much for reading 🙂

Is it worth the hype?: Sleek Matte Me in Birthday Suit ♡

In the past I’ve done posts like this about products that are usually quite pricey  however this only costs £4.99! The hype around this matte lip cream often means it’s hard to get hold of, i’ve checked many sleek counters and only found it twice, and it usually goes out of stock quickly both online and in store. It’s highly sought after as it’s a ‘Kylie Jenner’ shade, it creates a 90’s esque nude lip and is easy on the wallet.

First of all the formula is very creamy, meaning application is smooth, you also don’t need a lot of product to get good coverage. The shape of the applicator was a tad strange to me, mainly because it’s straight and doesn’t really follow the shape of the lips, but it’s nothing terribly difficult to use. The product isn’t streaky at all as i’ve found with some matte lip products so you get an even swipe of colour.

I love the colour of this, it’s a great nude for many skin tones, it’s not quite as dark as i’d expected it, it kind of reminds me of a mix of Mac’s Velvet Teddy & Twig, both lovely shades. The colour sticks around it’s quite long wearing, after drinking some water and having a few cheeky digestive biscuits it did not budge. You would need to top it up however every now and then or after a meal but it’s hard to find a lip product that you don’t need to, especially at this price.

Is it worth the hype?

Overall I think this is worth the hype, I’m so glad I finally got hold of it! It’s a great shade, long wearing and easy to apply, so perfect for 11874027_10152952888807371_1056444462_neveryday use. I didn’t get a Kylie Jenner vibe from it however, I feel her kind of nudes are darker but i’m sure you could achieve her look by pairing this with a darker lip liner.

Thank you for reading! Have you ever heard of or tried this?
Have a great day 🙂

Birchbox UK: August 2015 ♡

This was my first Birchbox, when a new month comes around I usually check what a couple of beauty boxes have to offer and decide whether or not to buy it. This month’s Birchbox spoke to me somehow, and after seeing reviews of it I gave into temptation! I was very impressed with the delivery process, I ordered it Sunday evening and it arrived Tuesday morning despite being a new customer, praise to them for that efficiency. I was also very impressed with the products I received so here is what I got;

Lord & Berry Blush in Lotus

I’m a fan of Lord & Berry so of course this was one of the main things I was drawn to in this box. This blush is a lovely dusky rosy colour, which is suitable for many skin tones despite its stark appearance. The formula of this blush is so smooth and powdery, which means it’s super pigmented, this sample will last me quite a while. Despite high pigmentation it blends really well, you’d just have to be careful of not being too heavy handed. It’s very long lasting and I can’t find anything I don’t like about this blush, I will definitely be investing in a Lord & Berry full size blush in the more money blessed future.

Benefit’s High Beam Highlighter

I hadn’t seen this in anyone else’s box but I am not complaining, I’ve wanted to try this product for a long time. It’s a pinkish liquid highlighter, the finish is glowy yet not overly shiny or overly shimmery. I like that it’s easily blendable so you can go crazy with the highlight or have a more subtle glow, whatever floats your boat! I feel i’ll get a good use out of this product, the sample is small but I won’t use it everyday and you don’t have to use a lot to achieve a highlighted look.

Beauty Protector’s Protect & Oil for Hair

This is an oil for your hair which helps protect it from heat and UV damage, and I am happy to have been given it! My hair tends to be dry and broken on the ends, and I need all the heat protection I can get so this is perfect for me. Sounds like they do actually listen to the personal profile you fill out! I think it’s a generous sample size too, you only need a few drops at a time so two tiny bottles is perfect and I love the sound of tiny glass bottles clinking together, just one of those bizarre things! Perfect travel size too, I currently use a Luxe oil in a hefty bottle so these will be better for transport.

Illamasqua Hydra Veil

My skin is combination so this is yet another useful product for me, it contains a bunch of ingredients that promise to hydrate and balance skin, it acts as bother a primer and a moisturiser essentially. I haven’t tried this yet but will definitely be incorporating it into my base routine after reading such good reviews about it.

BioNike Defence Tolerance Cleansing water

Cleansing water is all the rage these days, I couldn’t sound more like a grandma right now, but it is so I was glad to receive this. I normally stick to my usual micellar water, but this is a nice way to try out a new alternative. It’s more oily than a usual water but it does clean away make up very well and leaves the skin clean  and hydrated, this is apparently for hypersensitive skin so this would be good for all skin. Perfect travel size too!

Rituals Rice Scrub

This is a cleansing exfoliator for your body with organic rice milk and cherry blossom, you use it in the shower and rinse off. I like the smell of this, it’s not as sweet as i’d of expected but it’s very fresh and is a smell that sticks around. The exfoliating beads are quite small which I like as it gives a more accurate exfoliation which leaves skin very smooth. This will be great for my dry skin riddled legs, as gruesome as I made it sound, so again another product I will get a good use out of and i’m happy to finally try a Rituals product!

Overall I was very impressed with this months Birchbox, yet I think that’s just all because of personal preference and needs so maybe some people were disappointed with this box. Plus the box is adorable for storage purposes and I am a secret planner fan so the cute stickers will come in handy. Let me know if you got this months box and whether or not you loved it as much as I did? Also if you’re looking to buy this i’d recommend using the code that youtuber Amelia Liana has given in this video for £5 off. Thank you so much for reading!

Collection Cream Puff Matte Lip Creams ♡

I’m not massively familiar with Collection as a brand but every now and then they seem to release a product that is exceptionally good for its price. I had seen these Matte Lip Creams dotted around everywhere so thought they were worth a try for only £2.99 each.

The first colour I picked up was Fairy Cake, a really pretty coral pink tone. I’m not usually drawn to such bright colours but something about this is so appealing to the eyes, it’s a perfect summer colour. The colour translates well on application, the applicator is a typical lipgloss applicator, nice and pointed for easy use. The product admittedly is slightly streaky and needs a fair amount of evening out but this is probably due to the matte consistency of the formula. It’s easy to blend into an even coverage and it turns matte very quickly, the finish is pretty impressive. You’d need to have pretty exfoliated lips for this to look it’s best as I can imagine it could emphasise dry lips but other than that it looks great. It’s not very drying, it’s not as hydrating as say a MAC matte lipstick but it doesn’t make your lips feel deprived of moisture! I absolutely love this colour I wish I had discovered it earlier in the summer as it’s bright but not too garish for me. It would however require regular top ups as the colour fades over time especially from drinking but you can’t really complain for the price.

The second colour I purchased was Powder Puff which is a pale toned nude. These products smell amazing, a very sweet smell, this would definitely make your stomach growl if you were hungry! I’m speaking from personal experience! Upon application this particular shade was very streaky, I struggled to make the colour even despite multiple applications. The shade is also very light so not very suitable to my skintone which is a faux pas on my part, I didn’t get along with this shade at all! The consistency of this shade wasn’t as good as Fairy Cake, probably because of the light tone and i’m sure this will suit someone with much lighter colourings more. However I regret buying this and will probably pass it on to someone else or just keep it around to smell every once in a while. It smells seriously good…

Here are what they look like on the lips, Fairy Cake on the left Powder Puff on the right,it was unintentional that my facial expressions match my feelings towards the two products…

Thank you so much for reading, have you tried these? I’ve heard they’re pretty good alternatives to the NYX soft matte lip creams which I’d love to try. Hope your fridays are going well!
